All good here. Hope you are all good x
WARNING WARNING WARNING
We have just had a phone call from the MCA relating to the compulsory wearing of a PFD or Life Jacket on a fishing vessel. This is something that we have been heavily promoting during our Seafish training courses as has been the below warning that it would happen.
The MCA are now actively using UAVs to fly over and photograph fishing vessels at sea. The photographs taken are extremely high quality and legally admissible in court. If the photograph taken shows that there is no obvious us of PFDs or Life Jackets (or other man over board prevention in place) being worn by crew on deck, enforcement notices ARE NOW being sent out from the Head of Enforcement in MCA Southampton. You will be asked to prove (with evidence) what acceptable PFD or Life Jacket was being worn (or other man over board prevention in place) by the crew in the photograph. This may also involve a physical inspection of the vessel and equipment if required by the MCA. If it cannot be proven that acceptable PFDs or Life Jackets were being worn, enforcement action will follow.
Enforcement letters have already started being sent out in Wales.
PLEASE NOTE, belt worn, inflatable or otherwise buoyant devices are NOT accepted as adequate.
There is now a ZERO tolerance with regard to fishing vessel safety by the MCA including PFD/Life Jacket wearing, training etc.
Don't get caught out by this. The MCA requires that, unless measures are in place which eliminate the risk of fishermen falling overboard, all fishermen must be provided with and must wear PFDs or safety harnesses. The measures preventing Man Overboard
must be documented in a written risk assessment.
Further information in MGN 588(F) - COMPULSORY PROVISION AND WEARING OF PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES ON FISHING
VESSELS.
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST so we can get the message out to all our fishing community to save lives and protect from enforcement action. ... See MoreSee Less

Bloody hell!!! How much has that cost the tax payers for the MCA to have a toy like that!!!! Bloody joke
Alexander Morrison
Thank you for the heads up βοΈπ
Is just commercial fishing industry regs or does include pleasure fishermen...
I'm all for safety but this is just another intrusion on civil rights, big brother is watching.

Had the MCA aboard before Christmas and have never been so disgusted in my life . After 40 years at sea and always having a good relationship with them I was confronted with some of life’s low life . I can assure anyone the MCA are no longer a friend to the fishing community. Fine and comply doesn’t save lives good seamanship and common sense does.

Hope your doing all the EU boat's not just harassing UK fishermen.

WHY DID THEY NOT SAY THIS ON THE MAIN POST VERY MISLEADING TO ALL THE ANGLERS it is rules on Commercial Registered Fishing Vessel... although it does no harm for people to wear a Life Jacket on a Charter Vessel if they want to.

Happy New Year! Here's to brighter times ahead x

Happy New Year both, let’s get training π
And this is why we talk about this sort of thing during the Basic Health and Safety and especially on Safety Awareness courses. Like the skipper and crew on this fishing vessel, you cant predict the accident but you can be prepared to deal with the accident. Sounds like in this case as totally unexpected and unpredictable the event, the response was excellent and definately saved lives. Well done to all onboard. ... See MoreSee Less

βFire Fighting has very good practical demonstrations
βIt was very useful using and getting a feel for the fire extinguishers. Great course.
βFirst aid was very comprehensive. No other topics need to be covered.
βFirst aid was very informative and a great course.

Fire Fighting this coming weekend is now full but we do still have a few spaces left on Health & Safety if you need it as part of your Mandatory training, or as a refresher. It was great to be back last weekend. Both Sea Survival and First Aid were a great success. π ... See MoreSee Less
